Great write-up, I did some math on how affordable the Berkey (my main concern was fluoride) but reading your post I'm glad I have the Berkey https://www.thutwealth.com/reasons-to-oppose-fluoridation-of-our-water/

Agreed. Especially as you are trying to drink more and more water, it becomes more important to have the water be clean.

Well water here so fluoride isn't the biggest concern. Berkey takes all the other potential stuff out. Water is so crisp tasting with it.

Question: if you live right next to a large body of water (think large freshwater lake, that's kept clean by the nearby environmentalists), would you still recommend going with a filter?

I don't see how it hurts to still use a filter.

I view it as a low cost no risk addition. Filtering your water isn't going to make it worse for you. So your worst case outcome of filtering is no change in the water quality.

We have a well and every year it tests as being pristine. Still have a Berkey as there is little downside (other than the cost of filter, replacements, and a small inconvenience of filling it up).

If you have clean water, and have other more pressing areas to focus on your health, start there. If you are in a place where you are living healthy already, this is definitely another tool in the tool box.
