Your Penis is Smaller than your Grandpas!!!!
No, we aren’t looking.
But that is what the science says. If you went back in time and met your GrandDaddy when he was your age, he would embarrass you. Not just in the showers with his huge scholong, but he was so fertile he would impregnate your girlfriend so hard her sister would have twins.
Then he would shake your hand on the way out and crush your wet spaghetti noodle grip.
Why? Because his testosterone levels were massive and yours barely register on the scale. What is driving you to be a shell of the man your forefathers were?
Xenoestrogens.
Oh, there is a host of other things too. Watching My Little Ponies while eating cotton candy ice cream during your early adulthood probably doesn’t help. Especially since Grandpa was off killing Nazis and all you killed today was a few red bulls, hot pockets, and self-respect. Also, ordering ‘soy (and chemical)’ burgers immediately drops testosterone 50 points. The list is probably long.
This post is going to be focused on xenoestrogens. It will introduce you to xenoestrogens, common ways you bombard your system with them daily, and a few ways to remove them. You won’t be Hercules doing the below, but you might not need your girlfriend to open the pickle jar for you anymore. After you stop adding excess estrogen, you will be in a better spot to further optimize your hormonal profile.
What is a Xenoestrogen?
Xeno means foreign. Estrogen is a female hormone. Therefore, xenoestrogens are just estrogens from outside (foreign to) your body. However, once in your body they behave just like estrogen. They are also called “environmental hormones”, and “Endocrine Disrupting Compounds”. But lets face it, xenoestrogen sounds more ominous and allows for Alien xenomorph puns so that is my preference.
Xenoestrogen can lead to:
Undeveloped reproductive organs for babies in utero (Yes mom’s diet influences baby’s hormones)
Underdeveloped reproductive organs in maturity
Lower sperm concentration and quality
Infertility
Weight Gain
Performance issues (ie- inability to get hard or a less firm and smaller erection)
Hair loss
Hormonal dysfunction
Sounds pretty bad right? Below are common natural and synthetic xenoestrogens
Natural Xenoestrogen
Xenoestrogens can be natural estrogen from plants, called phytoestrogens.
“Natural? That doesn’t sound bad. Natural is a good thing.” you may be thinking….WRONG
A pull quotes from the wikipedia page on xenoestrogens, “…given that some plants (like the cereals and the legumes) are using estrogenic substances possibly as part of their natural defence against herbivore animals by controlling their fertility.”
Plants slowly making a population infertile over generations to kill them off? That sounds like a more exciting version of the M. Night Shyamalan movie where Marky Mark just stared at trees.
What is best in life?
“To crush your enemies sperm count, to see them droop cuz of you, and to hear the lamentations of their women who go unfertilized.”
-With Love, Soybean the MakeYourPeenSmall-arian
There are 4 types of plant estrogen (also known as phytoestrogen). Of the 4 types, one acts very similar to estrogen, Isoflavones. There is one common food product loaded with these Isoflavones. Soy. Soy has about 100 times more isoflavones than most other legumes.
1) Soy
Stay away from soy in all its forms. Tofu, Miso, Tempeh, Natto, edamame, soy protein, soy milk, fake-‘meat’ full of soy filler, etc etc.
If you are buying low-quality food, it contains soy protein or soybean oil. Soybean oil is nasty inflammatory stuff as well.
Additionally, soy is one of the crops most heavily sprayed with pesticides (See#7). That means, you get all those feminizing phytoestrogens and you get the added benefit of all those feminizing xenoestrogen from the pesticide.
Soy is sneaky. Since it is fairly cheap it gets added into a lot of packaged food, bars, powders, etc in order to boost the ‘protein’ content. Be aware that it is unclear if protein from soy actual is bioavailable in any signficant amount.
Lastly, it is just gross. If soy was good, you wouldn’t need to pretend it was meat or milk. Hell, if soy was reaallllyyyy tasty you would see meat product pretending to be soy. You could have ground beef made into little edamame balls for example.
Now some ‘vegan health expert’ is going to point to alternative studies saying ‘isoflavones are weak estrogen’ and some studies have shown no side effects, and some athlete may be vegan. This can be a post of its own. But 1) Was this ‘expert’ sickly & scrawny? 2) why chance it at all? If there is even a chance soy can have estrogenic effects, avoid it for something else.
Synthetic Xenoestrogens
Xenoestrogens can also be synthetic. The birth control pill is a xenoestrogen.
“But I don’t take birth control” you protest.
Well, First off, you do if you drink water or any fluid seeing how it has birth control in it.
Estrogen from the pill gets peed out, but doesn’t break down, and ends up in our water supply. I know what you are thinking. Next time you see a teenage girl you are going to run up to her and shriek “you need to stop Effin with my baloney pony’. But don’t do this…. for at least 2 reasons. 1) If you startle her and she piddles, it only exacerbates the problem as more pill laced pee is now in circulation, and 2) It is apparently socially frowned upon.
Also, synthetic estrogen is in all sorts of chemicals, preservatives, pesticides, and items you interact with every day. Here are some of the most common:
2) Plastic Water Bottles, Disposable Cups & Tupperware
Serious, how is anyone still using these. The plastic contains BPA and phthalates.
“I got a BPA free plastic water bottle, so I am good”, you think.
Welp, the manufacturer replaced BPA with BPS/BPF and slapped a big ol’ BPA free sign on it. Guess what? BPS/BPF are from the same bisphenol family and are actually even worse for you in some studies.
If you are using disposable water bottles that is even worse. Plastic leeches chemicals at faster rates at extreme temperatures. So while your water sat in a 130 degree container truck on the way to the store to be refrigerated, it was leeching chemicals. They also degrade over time, so if you are trying to beat the system by re-filling it with new water, you aren’t.
Be an adult. Get a metal water bottle. Here
Storing food in plastic leads to the same issue. Acidic foods degrade plastic too. Upgrade to glass or steel storage. Get parchment paper and tin foil instead of plastic wrap.
Putting your hot coffee in styrofoam or lined paper cups. Pretty soon you’ll be able to add some fresh squeezed cream from your big lactating man boobs with all the estrogen you are swallowing.
If you work in an office, you likely see people microwaving lunches in tupperware (or frozen processed food in plastic containers with the plastic film on the top). That only makes it so so much worse. You are practically melting the plastic into your food.
Lastly, washing plastic in dishwasher degrades plastic making it more likely to shed too.
3) Green Grass (aka Pesticides & Herbicides)
Round-up is over sprayed everywhere. The main weed killing ingredient is glyphosate. Nasty stuff. If not glyphosate, it is some other equally bad chemical used in conventional pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides.
One of the worst offenders is golf courses, but anywhere there is unrealistic lush green grass with no weeds, you can assume it is heavily sprayed. Unfortunately, this tends to be sport fields, parks, and other areas people tend to go and enjoy running around.
Similarly, do not spray your own yard. Especially if you have pets. First, your pet will be exposed to the same chemicals and it will increase their chance of developing cancer. Second, when snookums comes inside and rolls in your bed and couch, he just crop dusted these chemicals all over where you are going to put your face and sleep.
4) Fragrances and soaps/shampoos/lotions/gels
I hope you are past the point of Axe Body Spray showers. But if not, listen up. Articial fragrances are loaded with phthalates as it helps the fragrance linger.
Also, you smell offensive to those around you.
Any artificial fragrance contains xenoestrogens. You know when there is a pest infestation and they cover the building with tarps and set off pesticide bombs? You are basically doing that to yourself when you walk around in a cloud of fragrance. But in this analogy your testosterone is the pest and you are nuking it.
Old people are almost as bad as Bros with dousing themselves with fragrance. They can’t smell for spit. That’s why I poured out Grandma Esther’s 14 bottles of perfume and replaced the liquid with steak sauce. You should do the same. Not only will your dogs love her, but you can rest easy knowing her plan to load you up with estrogen to make you even smaller than your dead Grandpa Willard was ruined.
Similarly, look at anything you clean with, slather on your body, or put in your hair. Most contain not only fragrances, but a lot of hormone disrupting chemicals (parabens, phthalates, 4-MBC).
5) Receipts
Yes, the paper receipts you get at the store, they are covered in BPA and it is absorbed through your fingers.
Guess what makes your pores extra absorptive? Rubbing alcohol. It sure is good we haven’t been telling people who touch receipts all day to slather on the hand sanitizer.
Stop touching receipts. Have the workers toss it for you or put in the bag.
Every once in a while, Todd the checkout boy will grow jealous that Cassandra the 25-year old college drop-out bag girl with numerous piercings is making eyes at you. He will try to force you to take the receipt in a power move. Don’t do it. Todd is like a pimple-faced soybean looking to play the long game and turn you into a limp noodle. Not today Todd.
6) Processed Foods
Did you really need another reason not to eat these?
There are over 3,000 preservatives, flavorings, colorings, and chemicals added to foods and none are tested for estrogenic activity.
The preservatives that keep these stable for long periods of time disrupt hormones. For instance, propyl gallate is used to keep fat from spoiling and in preliminary studies appears to be a xenoestrogen. The food coloring Red#3 also is known hormone disruptor. If you grew up in the 90s-2000s you probably made the joke “I drink a ton of code red, I can’t get anyone pregnant”. First, it is settled science. Second, that was due to the Red#3 in the drink.
7) Conventional grown & raised foods
All non-organic crops are sprayed with massive amounts of chemicals, mostly Round-Up (glyphosate), atrazine & endosulfan. All 3 are known hormone disruptors. And this is the ACTUAL reason to go organic. Most studies say there is no nutritional difference in organic vs conventional produce. But conventional produce gets hit with a lot of hormone disrupting chemicals.
Factory farm raised meat gets pumped full of a lot of anti-biotics and hormones. The animals get pumped with estrogenic hormones to help them gain weight and get more profit out of the animals.
Even if you have a garden, you will still likely buy groceries. Try to go organic with produce. But remember that organic also uses ‘natural’ pesticides. Therefore, you always need to wash all produce with a natural citrus veggie wash or you can make your own wash with baking powder/soda & vinegar.
For meat, try to go with organic free-range, wild-caught, or grass fed & finished options. The price is more, but these are the least full of synthetic chemicals
8) Non-stick cookware
Lastly, you need to look at what you cook your food in. Teflon releases xenoestrogens when heated.
Make the switch to some of the ceramic cookware.
These are just as cheap and non-stick, but with none of the synthetic xenoestrogens being released. If you aren’t cooking with ceramic cookware you are being short-sighted with your health.
Can you get rid of xenoestrogens?
Yes.
You don’t even need supplements or medicine here.
First, you need to stop consuming xenoestrogens. No soy, better grooming products, organic high-quality food that you washed, ceramic cookware, less chemicals.
Second, cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, etc) have a component that breaks down bad estrogen in the system so you want to eat a lot of those.
Third, is have more fiber in general as hormones get excreted in poop. One big issue with constipation is it allows your body to reabsorb the hormones sitting in your gut. The best fiber is psyllium husk and yerba prima is cleanest one in recent tests.
Fourth, green tea and water….but not from plastic!!!
Lastly, kim chi has been shown to help remove these chemicals from your body as well. (the asian fermented cabbage)
Conclusion
So you have man boobs and a beer gut, it may not be entirely due to your diet. Many of these xenoestrogens are dubbed “obesogens” because they disrupt your hormones and make it more difficult to lose weight and easier to gain weight. (But also, you should clean up your diet too.)
You now know what to do to avoid xenoestrogens and how to start riding your body of them.
One last tip, especially if you are young and starting out. People go buy mason jars and pay for empty mason jars…bruh, you get a glass mason jar every time you buy something in glass instead of cans. When you are done, wash it. Now you have glassware.
Go. Implement these tips. Maybe after cleaning up your hormonal profile you will get closer to the tallywhacker your ancestors were slanging.
