This week there was a post all teed-up to go, but it didn’t feel relevant after a week of, honestly, pretty gruesome stuff. And as more details drop it all just gets more and more concerning.

Now don’t worry, I am not going to add to the long chorus line of social/political commentary. I have my opinions, but this substack is to help you improve your life, not to sound off on breaking news with edgelord or doomer takes.

But this week you can feel a shift in vibes. As someone who is a long-term planner and who’s job is about managing risk over decades…it has been a week of a lot of thinking and introspection.

I have been thinking a lot about what a major shift in the status quo can mean. We have been in a relatively safe and prosperous time for nearly all of our lives. And because of that, there are a lot of plans made that involve the coming decades to maintain most of that order.

Now don’t worry, I am not going to get all doomer and tell you to build a bunker and turn in your stocks for gold and MREs.

But if the last few days are any indication, there is going to be a growing chorus of drum-banging. There is going to be a lot of attention-grabbing items and group chats, and public confrontations.

If you are looking for ragebait, keyboard warrior tough talk, and grand proclamations, well this ain’t it.

In my younger days when there was nothing in life to lose due to no assets & no family, I relished a good debate/fight it might be different. Now, moments like this where you see things start to unravel, it instead makes you re-focus on what important.

“These shabby shoes I’m wearin’ all the time, Are full of holes and nails. And brother if I stepped on a worn out dime, I bet a nickel I could tell you if it was heads or tails.”

Now some of you may be young and just starting out. It may seem worth it to crash out and prove a point. I promise, the older & successful You doesn’t want that.

And some of you may be older but still not where you want to be in life. It may seem worth it to crash out, take out your frustration, and prove a point. I promise, all the people talking big now will not be there when you are the one who actually does something.

And some of you may be exactly where you want to be in life, but emotional and confused. You are a person of action and you feel impotent watching what is going on. You want to do something. I promise, you don’t want to do anything rash.

It isn’t that you can’t or shouldn’t do anything…it is just most people get emotional and do fruitless short-sighted things.

But what can you do? What is important and where should you focus all that energy?

I’ll tell you what I think the answer is.
