Finding success in W2 Life Part 1 was a big hit. We covered a hot of big hit items to not be that guy working tons of hours who keeps getting passed up for promotions and is sitting in a stagnating career.
This week we follow it up with some more ways to get the W2 Income growing again and to stop losing ground as your pitiful raises continue to be behind inflation.
And to state it here, again, upfront - if you have been in the same role, doing the same thankless work for a decade plus, it may be time to make a jump external to actually start progressing. Once you get the rep of not a potential future leader, it can be very hard to change it at your current company.
The higher you go up the chain, the more of a pyramid it becomes. Each job grade gets smaller and also more impactful to the bottom line (pay gets significantly higher). So not only is it easier to talk & know everyone in the job grade, the criteria for moving up gets harder.
Chances are if you feel you keep getting passed over for promotions, it is because you are. You probably have been identified as someone who is near their growth potential and that is a black mark on your internal score card that is very very hard to shake. Jump to a new company and start with a clean slate. Then apply the lessons in these 2 posts to avoid soiling your reputation at the new place.
With that, what else can you do to find success at your W2?
