[Late Note - after writing this post, I realized how many of the points I made share parallels to financial advice I give. Even though I started this as one of the few broader life posts, it all tied back to themes in financial posts. Crazy how the same principles that work in one area can be extended to more universal rules. I tie it all together in the last section.]

There are 3 topics that I really feel passionate about - finances, fitness, and family. Now, I really like to keep this substack focused on finances - it is the bread and butter and the topic I can speak to the best. I went to school in a financial field. I work in a job that is in the field. I spend a lot of my time over the years reading on it.

And I recently did a post on making 2025 your best financial year ever here:

Another year is wrapping up. Hopefully you made progress towards your goals this year. If not, this post will cover the things you need to do for 2025 to finally get your financial situation moving in the right direction. It goes over all the essentials to make huge improvements to your finances this year. For almost everyone who isn’t already massively wealthy - to the point they literally never have to worry about money - there is things you can do this year that will help your finances.

Today’s post will have your typical financial stuff, but will also cover some of the many lessons I have learned in my many trips around the sun about other topics. I encourage everyone to read it and think about it.

Life has a way to get increasingly complex.

It is easy to lose sight of what is important.

And often we set up a plan to achieve a goal, but suddenly become so focused on things in the plan we lose sight of why the heck we started down a path anyway.

(For example, people find out they are expecting a baby and decide to get rich to give that kid the best life possible. But then they fixate on the ‘get rich’ part and end up being subpar parents in the process. This is an example of setting a plan (get rich) for a goal (to give your kid a great life) that turns into the actions (working a ton and being stressed) being the focus and the goal being missed (kids resent you for never being there).

This post was great to write (helps to re-center yourself every once in a while) and has lots of good advice. Let’s go
