Let's do a Quick Run Through of the Essentials

It has been a fun couple of weeks largely on some niche topics - Life insurance illustrations, Life insurance for tax minimization, RILAs (I have yet to see any other finance person hit that topic), and hedges.

This is all interesting and good stuff to know & be aware of.

But it is very situationally specific. You need to be at the right point in life to be looking at a variable universal life policy for tax minimization. You need to have a need to put a basket of money in a product that gives a known payout range depending on how stocks do (RILA). And only when you are trying to buy life insurance do you need to know the secret sauce of illustrations.

I thought it would be a good time to step back and run through the essentials to get your finances on point.

I’d be doing a disservice if I didn’t mention that starting a successful cash-flowing business is a way to speed run to financial success. But there are better sources out there for that and lots of specific financial advice for business owners.

This post is going to be targeting the typical person who is working a salaried job, raising a family, probably has some debt hanging around and a mortgage, and trying to ensure they can retire in their early 60s with plenty of cushion for an enjoyable retirement.

What are the essential steps for this person to do to make sure they are getting the most bang for their buck.
